The University of Minnesota Trumpet Section stands out from the rest of the band. Not because we are the biggest section in the band with over 60 members, but because we also put in the effort. Each member of the University of Minnesota Marching Band puts in over 500 hours of service to the band each season. Each member of the Trumpet Section puts additional hours in attending sextets and sectionals, refining our sound and becoming better. Sometimes we have to get up at 5:30am for a 11:00am game to make sure that when the band succeeds, we helped it succeed.
The average school day for a trumpet may include the following:
- 7:00am - Wake up for classes
- 8:00am - First class of the day
- 9:00am - Working
- 10:30am - More classes
- 12:00pm - Lunch
- 1:25pm - More classes
- 3:40pm - Running to attend sextet
- 4:15pm - Marching Band Practice
- 6:15pm - Dinner
- 7:15pm - Homework
- 11:30pm - Bed
It is not easy being in the University of Minnesota Marching Band. We put in more hours to our organization than probably any other. But being able to say you are part of that 0.5% that did something more than just "attend" college. Now that is something.
Some may call us crazy, other call us dedicated, we call ourselves trumpets.
